The Central Texas Methodist Foundation has a significant role in making loans to United Methodist Churches and agencies in the Central Texas Annual Conference. Advancing ministries throughout the Conference, the Foundation's loans are used to build or renovate sanctuaries, education space, parsonages, and family life centers, and to acquire property and refinance debt.
In 1957 the Foundation began its loan program with a focus on "second-mile lending" of small amounts to meet urgent needs. That sensitivity to the needs of every local church continues with a remarkable record of every loan being repaid. Today, the Foundation makes low-cost loans for major construction and renovation of worship and ministry facilities. Churches applying for a small loan or those applying for a major loan are offered the same individual consideration.
The capital available for loans originates from the Foundation's own funds, as well as from the growing pool of money invested by individuals and churches. Investments from churches go into the "Church Loan Fund" or for the purchase of Certificates of Participation (CPs) offered by the Foundation. Individuals may invest through CPs. A portion of planned giving proceeds, individual trusts, annuities, and endowments are also invested in order to provide loans.
