Enjoying a comfortable home is a blessing that most of us appreciate every day. Family and friends gather for holidays, celebrations, or just a little visit. Home is a place of memories, comfort and love.
Your home is also a magnificent resource for stewardship. As children grow up and have their own homes, it can be difficult for them to dispose of your house after your lifetime.
An alternative is to make a gift of your home to your church. With all of the rest of your estate going to your family, your home can be a magnificent expression of your faith and love to benefit your church.
Common ways to give your home is to make a bequest through your Will; or make a gift of your home now, and keep it for your use for your lifetime.
The second choice is called a "gift of residence with a retained life estate" and is commonly used for homes and farms. With this choice, you also enjoy a current tax deduction for part of the value of your property.
